Requirements:
BACCALAUREATE DEGREE FROM AN ACCREDITED COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY IS REQUIRED, AN ADVANCED DEGREE IS PREFERRED. CANDIDATES SHOULD HAVE A MINIMUM OF THREE YEARS OF FUND-RAISING EXPERIENCE, PREFERABLY IN HIGHER EDUCATION, OR A RECORD OF DEMONSTRATED ACHIEVEMENT IN A FIELD REQUIRING THE APPLICATION OF SIMILAR SKILLS. EXPERIENCE IN A MEDICAL SCHOOL OR HEALTH SCIENCES ENVIRONMENT IS DESIRABLE. SUPERIOR ORGANIZATIONAL SKILLS, ORAL AND WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS SKILLS, AND THE ABILITY TO ARTICULATE THE NEEDS, INTERESTS & ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF SCHOOL OF MEDICINE TO A WIDE RANGE OF AUDIENCES ARE REQUIRED. CANDIDATES MUST ALSO HAVE CAPACITY TO PERFORM IN AN INTELLECTUALLY RIGOROUS & COMPLEX ENVIRONMENT, EXHIBIT PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS ENABLING EFFECTIVE INTERACTION WITH IMPORTANT CONSTITUENCIES, AND POSSESS A GENUINE COMMITMENT TO THE ADVANCEMENT OF SCIENCE & SCIENCE EDUCATION AND TO THE PRINCIPLES GOVERNING THE DEPARTMENT OF MEDICAL ALUMNI & DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS.
Job Description:
UNDER SUPERVISION OF THE ASSOCIATE VICE CHANCELLOR AND ASSISTANT VICE CHANCELLOR, THE SENIOR ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR WILL HAVE THE FOLLOWING RESPONSIBILITIES: ESTABLISH AND MAINTAIN STRONG AND EFFECTIVE RELATIONSHIPS WITH THE SCHOOL'S MAJOR CONSTITUENCIES INCLUDING THE EXECUTIVE VICE CHANCELLOR FOR MEDICAL ALUMNI & DEVELOPMENT, DEAN AND MEMBERS OF HIS EXECUTIVE STAFF, DEPARTMENT CHAIRS AND THEIR DIVISION CHIEFS, SECTION HEADS, FULL-TIME FACULTY, VOLUNTEER FACULTY, AND MEMBERS OF OTHER KEY ACADEMIC, RESEARCH, CLINICAL AND ADMINISTRATIVE UNITS. SERVE AS LIAISON OFFICER TO DESIGNATED ACADEMIC DEPARTMENTS. CONCEIVE, INITIATE, AND MANAGE ANNUAL & CAPITAL GIFT PROGRAMS THAT ARE SCHOOL-WIDE, DEPARTMENTALLY FOCUSED, AND PROGRAM CENTERED. ASSIST SENIOR ADMINISTRATORS AND FACULTY WITH RECOGNITION AND PRIORITIZATION OF SCHOOL AND DEPARTMENTAL FUNDING NEEDS AND OPPORTUNITIES, TO PROVIDE CONSULTING SERVICES ON DEVELOPMENT ISSUES AND TO REMAIN ABREAST OF PRIORITIES AND PROGRAMS. TO CULTIVATE, SOLICIT, STEWARD, AND MANAGE A SUBSTANTIAL PORTFOLIO OF ALUMNI, FRIENDS, AND MAJOR PROSPECTS IN ST. LOUIS AND SELECTED CITIES. SERVE AS A PRIMARY RESOURCE OF INFORMATION ABOUT THE SCHOOL. TO COORDINATE MAJOR INTERACTIONS AND COMMUNICATIONS BETWEEN THE SCHOOL'S CONSTITUENCIES AND OTHER DEVELOPMENT OFFICES. ASSIST WITH THE PLANNING, EXECUTION, AND EVALUATION OF LOCAL, REGIONAL AND NATIONAL SPECIAL EVENTS SPONSORED BY THE DEPARTMENT, SCHOOL OF MEDICINE, OR THE UNIVERSITY. ACQUIRE AND MAINTAIN A WORKING KNOWLEDGE OF THE FUNDAMENTALS OF DEFERRED GIFTS, TO IDENTIFY DEFERRED GIFT PROSPECTS, AND TO FORMULATE STRATEGIES FOR SOLICITATIONS IN COLLABORATION WITH THE OFFICE OF PLANNED GIVING. IDENTIFY, TRAIN AND SUPPORT INDIVIDUALS WHO HAVE THE ABILITY TO SERVE AS VOLUNTEERS. PARTICIPATE IN AND CONTRIBUTE SIGNIFICANTLY TO THE DEVELOPMENT AND IMPLEMENTATION OF THE DEPARTMENT'S LONG-RANGE STRATEGIC PLAN. CARRY OUT THE UNIVERSITY'S POLICIES AND PROCEDURES. WORK COOPERATIVELY WITH OTHER STAFF MEMBERS IN ALUMNI & DEVELOPMENT. TRAVEL AS REQUIRED. UNDERTAKE OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED.
