Internal Transfer Process
Internal Transfer Process
Current employees interested in pursuing other job opportunities at Washington University should begin the internal transfer process by completing the standard online application and submitting it to the position(s) of interest.
There is no separate transfer application required for internal candidates.
The candidate will be asked to indicate whether he/she is a current university employee within the context of the electronic application form and should indicate “yes.” When presented with the “Internal Candidate” data page of the online application, the applicant should follow the instructions to disclose basic information regarding his/her current university employment. To complete the electronic application, click on the link below to access the online application system and select “Create Application” from the left-hand navigation bar.
In support of the application for alternate employment at Washington University, internal candidates are required to submit either a) a performance evaluation completed within the last 18 months; or b) two (2) letters of recommendation written by individuals of the candidate’s choosing, preferably current or previous supervisors. All supporting documentation should be submitted directly to the Human Resources office handling the position of interest (Danforth Campus, CB 1178, or School of Medicine, CB 8002).
In order to be eligible for transfer within the university system, all employees must satisfy the requirements set forth in the Transfer Policy and Procedures document
(see link below). Once all documentation is received, it will be reviewed by the relevant HR Employment Representative and approved candidates will be notified via email. If deemed ineligible for transfer, candidates will be contacted directly. All candidates are encouraged to continue applying for positions of interest during the transfer approval process;
however, a candidate is not eligible to receive an offer for alternate employment within the university system until formally approved for transfer.
Please note: In an effort to help ensure equity within salary grade levels across the university, an increase in salary is not warranted for lateral transfers (positions assigned to the same grade), nor when the new position is a lower salary grade. Both internal and external candidates are granted full and equal consideration for available employment opportunities at Washington University.
