Your coaching can range from less formal, day-to-day feedback, to a very structured and formalized process. Regardless of the formality and approach, successful coaching requires an effective blend of clear expectations, goal setting, monitoring, feedback, and ongoing communication.

    Management Development Certification Program (MDC)

Washington University Career Development office is now offering a Human Resources Management Development Certification. The professional development of the university’s managers is essential to achieving our mission and preparing leadership for the future which results in a more empowering climate.

The Management Development Certification (MDC) contributes to supporting these tenets by recognizing four core competencies that are the foundation of sound and effective management practices. These competency areas are comprised of: Personal Leadership, Communication Leadership, People Leadership, and Results Leadership.

The Management Competency Model is further refined into 17 competencies which are addressed by a series of management and leadership programs which are identified to support the development of these competencies. Additionally, there are several management assessments that are included to provide specific benchmarking of current skills and individual developmental action plans consisting of on-the-job developmental activities.

Most of the programs are offered annually and the assessments are to be scheduled individually. It also requires manager’s applying for the certification to have three previous Meets or Exceeds Expectations performance ratings and a record of completion of the certification training and assessments listed on HRMS.

In recognition of continuing professional development and completion of these programs and developmental assessments, managers will be rewarded with a certificate of accomplishment by the Vice Chancellor of Human Resources.
